BOOKS
More than thirty books published since 1971. These include ten
mystery novels featuring Special Investigator, Simon Bognor
(televised by Thames TV) as well as a thriller and two more
"literary" novels. Other books include a study of the Old Boy
Network, an evocation of English cricket, a description of Hong
Kong under the last British Governor as well as several
biographies. Among these are books about Prince Philip, Barbara
Cartland and Brian Johnston all of which which were not only highly
acclaimed but also serialised in, respectively, the Sunday Timess,
Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph.
Has also edited several anthologies of cricket and crime and
written many short stories for magazines such as Ellery QueenTatler. His new crime series featuring Dr. Tudor
Cornwall of the University of Wessex is published by Robert Hale
Ltd. "Death and the Visiting Fellow" (2004), and "Death and the
d'Urbervilles" (2005) have already appeared and he is now working
on "Death on the Ocean Wave".
"Village Cricket" was published by Little, Brown in 2004 and was
the subject of a Carlton TV series in which he featured
prominently.The book was published in paperback in 2006. An
extensively revised and updated version of his Denis Compton
biography was published in 2006 by Aurum.
He is currently working on a biography of Princess Margaret for
Weidenfeld and Nicolson. Her Majesty the Queen has given permission
for him to research this in the Royal Archives at Windsor and it is
scheduled for publication in 2007..

Fellow and Lecturer in Creative Writing and Journalism, University
of Tasmania 1997, 1999, 2000. Writer-in- residence, University of
South Australia, 2001. Guest speaker on QE2 1998 -, Caronia 2002
and 2003; Founder and Chairman of Trustees, Real Tennis Club of
Cornwall 1997 - ;President Old Shirburnian Society 2000 - 2004;
Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature 2000.
PERSONAL
Lives in Fowey, Cornwall with Australian second wife, Penny Byrne.
Four children from first marriage.
